Handy Hints for Avoiding Issues With Your Front-Loading Washer

A lot of consumers have switched to front-loading washing machines for their impressive cleaning results and smart energy usage. But if you have a front-loading washer, it’s a good idea to make sure you’re taking the right steps to care for this new generation of appliance.

For starters, always use a detergent marked with the HE label when using your front-loading washer. HE stands for high efficiency, and these detergents are specially made to work with the lower water levels in front-loading washers. Since HE formulas are more concentrated than regular detergents, they clean with less suds. That makes an HE detergent the perfect solution for your energy-saving washer, and an easy way to avoid ending up with excess lather in your wash cycle and residue buildup in your clothes and appliance.

Another helpful tip for maintaining your front-loading washer is to keep the appliance door slightly open when not in use. Unfortunately, due to water getting caught in the rubber door gasket, this type of washing machine is prone to producing unpleasant smells. Just leaving the washer’s door ajar provides better ventilation and is a simple fix to this common problem. If you’re still having trouble with odors, you can try running your unit through a hot water wash with or without bleach and then letting the door stay open for the air to circulate. Of course, if the added air isn’t doing the trick, you can always towel off the washer door after each load, eliminating water on both the gasket and glass.

At Morris County Appliance Repair, we’re delighted to share our insights into how to keep your front-loading washing machine working—and smelling—its very best. When something is fishy with your laundry appliances, don’t hesitate to give us a call!

Discover Simple First Aid for Your Refrigerator and Freezer Gaskets

Most people have a jar of petroleum jelly in the bathroom for treating everything from chapped lips to dry skin. But here’s one use for this versatile product you may not have heard before: Apply a thin layer of Vaseline or other petroleum jelly to your refrigerator and freezer gaskets to aid in proper suction and sealing.

It turns out this household staple is just as effective at lubricating and protecting your refrigerator gasket as it is at healing your skin. And since you probably already have some tucked away in the medicine cabinet, it’s an easy and convenient way to prevent these rubber gaskets from drying, cracking, and needing to be replaced.

When your refrigerator and freezer gaskets dry out and tear, they no longer create a strong seal to lock in cold air. That means your appliance has to work harder than it should, using excess electricity and running up your utility bills.

At Morris County Appliance Repair, we’re happy to pass along simple tips to help you keep your home appliances in peak condition. A little petroleum jelly on your fridge and freezer gaskets can go a long way toward making sure your unit stays sealed up tight and your food stays fresh.

You can always turn to our local appliance repair company for questions concerning your refrigerator, freezer, and other major appliances. With more than 50 years of experience providing appliance repair service, we have your home covered!

Oven and Range Maintenance to Keep Your Unit Performing Well

If you want to be certain your cooking appliances are ready to perform at their best whenever you want to prepare a meal, routine maintenance is a must. There are a few things you can do on your own to ensure that your appliances remain in good shape. For instance, avoid broiling with the oven door open. As the heat escapes, it can damage the contacts on the touch control, which will result in you needing costly repairs. Similarly, as you cook on your gas range or even clean around the elements, try to avoid getting the spark tips wet. Getting these components wet can damage them, resulting in a constant clicking sound and—you guessed it—potentially expensive repairs.

By taking good care of your kitchen appliances on your own, you can lengthen their lives and stop them from needing professional service. That said, when issues pop up that you can’t solve by yourself, it’s definitely time to get in touch with a knowledgeable and skilled oven repair specialist. In and around Morris County, you can put your trust in Morris County Appliance Repair for exceptional oven and range repair. We’re proud to be licensed and insured, and to have 50 years of experience among our team members. We’ll be happy to give you more troubleshooting tips for your cooking appliances, so call today!

Pick Up Some Maintenance Pointers From Our Appliance Pros

Home appliances do so much these days that we tend to take them for granted. If you’ve been forgetting the simple steps you should be taking to keep your units clean and working efficiently, here are a couple of reminders.

First up, it’s still as important as ever to remove the contents of your dryer lint screen after each and every load. This is an oldie-but-goodie tip that helps immensely to allow proper airflow and reduce the risk of your dryer overheating. We understand that getting the laundry done already consumes a great deal of your time. Nevertheless, spending just a few moments more to consistently lift out lint is a small price to pay to avoid a dryer fire. Both your clothes dryer and home will be safer when you follow this tip. Plus, you’ll have the added benefits of items getting dry faster and extended dryer life.

Moving on to the kitchen, don’t forget to vacuum your refrigerator condenser coil at least every six months. While the inside of your refrigerator probably sees a lot of action, not many homeowners give much thought to the outside of the fridge until something goes wrong. A twice-yearly sweep of the condenser coil can help to maintain efficiency and prevent a reduction in your refrigerator’s performance. Check your local housewares store for a refrigerator-coil brush, a cleaning tool specifically designed for condenser dust removal.

So there you have it: Two incredibly easy things you can do to show your household appliances a little love. Should you have questions about either of these tips or require further assistance from an appliance repair pro, put in a call to Morris County Appliance Repair. We’ve been caring for appliances since 1962!
