Learn Your Way Around Fixing a Leaky Dishwasher

When your home dishwasher is leaking, you may feel inclined to contact an appliance repair company. But before you do that, why not give it a go and see if this is a dishwasher problem you might be able to fix on your own?

If you’re somewhat handy, chances are you have what it takes to troubleshoot your dishwasher leaks. A faulty dishwasher is often the result of a damaged part, and the pros at Morris County Appliance Repair are happy to walk you through some of the possible reasons your unit may be leaking.

For starters, many dishwasher leaks occur because of broken pumps or pump seals. Located on the floor of your dishwasher, the pump circulates and sometimes drains water, while the pump seal features a rubber gasket for sealing the pump to the dishwasher’s tub. When one or both of these fail, you can find yourself with a leaking dishwasher. To find out if a faulty pump or pump seal is to blame for your dishwasher leaks, you’ll need to remove the access panel on the bottom front of your dishwasher and check these components for damage.

Other possible reasons for your dishwasher leaks could be a deteriorating door gasket or a loose water inlet valve. Like the seal around your dishwasher’s pump, the rubber door gasket helps to ensure a watertight seal on your appliance. Over time, the gasket can crack and rip, allowing water to seep through. Examine your door gasket to check for tears and replace it if any are spotted. It’s also important in the case of dishwasher leaks to check for a secure connection to the water inlet valve. You’ll find the inlet valve behind the kick plate on the lower front of your dishwasher.

When you know what to look for when detecting dishwasher leaks, it’s not always necessary to summon appliance repair pros. Once you determine the defective component, you can simply remove it and replace it with a brand-new part. On the other hand, Morris County Appliance Repair is only a phone call away when you’re not comfortable doing your own dishwasher leak repairs. For reliable results on your home appliance repairs, we’re here to help in Morris County and beyond!
