Common Issues When a Dishwasher Won’t Drain

Is your dishwasher still filled with water at the end of the cycle? There are a few common reasons that your dishwasher won’t drain.

Check for Clogs

One of the most common issues that prevents a dishwasher from draining is a clogged filter. Small pieces of food might get stuck in the filter and then clog the drain. If there’s more than a few cups of water left in your dishwasher, you’ll want to remove as much of it as you can and then check for anything that could be clogging the filter.

Check the Drain Hose

Another common reason for a dishwasher that won’t drain is a blocked or kinked drain hose. If your drain hose is blocked in some way, then water won’t be able to drain out. To check for a block in your drain hose, you will need to remove it to inspect it and clear it out.

Check Your Garbage Disposal

In many households, dishwashers are connected to garbage disposals, and if your garbage disposal is clogged then your dishwasher won’t drain. If you’re experiencing a problem with your dishwasher draining, take a look at your garbage disposal and see if there is a blockage that you can remove.

If you’re struggling with a dishwasher that won’t drain, Morris County Appliance Service has you covered. We can pinpoint the exact issue that is causing your dishwasher not to drain. Contact us today to solve your dishwasher problems!
